Church Planting FAQ
-
A church plant is a new church started by a group of people who believe God is calling them to bring the hope of Jesus to a new community.
Just like a new family, business, or neighborhood begins with a few people and grows over time, a church plant begins with a small group of people gathering around Jesus and His mission. Over time, that community grows into a church family where people can worship, build relationships, grow in faith, and serve their neighbors.
-
Because every person needs a place to encounter Jesus.
New Starts meet New People. Different approaches reach different people. More churches reach More People.
We are sent by Jesus through the Great Commission to make more disciples.
From the beginning, the church has grown as disciples have shared the good news and formed new communities centered on Christ. We believe healthy churches don't just grow—they multiply.
Planting more churches allows more people to hear the gospel, experience Christian community, and discover the hope and new life found in Jesus. Our prayer is that Oikos would not only become a faithful church family, but a church that helps start new church families for generations to come.
-
“We are building a family before we build a gathering.”
Because relationships matter, we are planting Oikos by starting with meaningful community rather than Sunday Morning Worship.
We are beginning with Life Groups—small communities where people can build friendships, study God's Word, pray together, and share life with one another. These groups are the foundation of our church plant because we believe healthy churches are built on healthy relationships.
As these communities grow, they will come together as one Launch Team—a group of people committed to living out our mission, vision, and values as we prepare to launch weekly worship gatherings in the Willis area.
Our Process: Relationships → Life Groups → Launch Team → Public Launch → Growing Family
-
This is one of the most frequent questions we get.
The answer is: all over our community.
“Our hope is not simply to create a place where people come to us, but to become a people who go into the places God has already placed us.”
While we continue to look for a central gathering space for future worship services, we believe God has given us a unique opportunity to be a church that is present throughout Willis and the surrounding area. The church was never meant to be confined to one building—it is a people who bring the presence and love of Jesus wherever they go.
Right now, our Life Groups gather throughout the week in homes, businesses, and community spaces across Willis and Conroe. These gatherings allow us to build genuine relationships, meet people where they are, and live out our vision of Life Together: With God. With Each Other. With Our Neighbor.
Some of our current gathering locations include:
Tropical Smoothie Cafe
B52 Brewery
Guadalaharry's Bar and Grill
Local Disc Golf Courses
Conroe Regional Airport (CXO)
Wherever we gather, our goal remains the same: to bring Jesus to people and build a community where everyone can find belonging.

“We Are Planting for Long-Term Gospel Impact.”
Our goal is to establish Oikos Church as a healthy, self-sustaining church family within the first four years of planting.
However, our focus is not simply reaching a launch date—we are building a foundation that will last. Instead of following a strict timeline, we follow what we call phase-lines.
Each phase is based on specific spiritual, relational, and organizational milestones that help us grow in a healthy way. These are not steps, but rather building blocks of our church over time.
Our ultimate goal is bigger than simply becoming an established church. We desire to “plant pregnant” and be a church that plants more churches.
Phase 1: With God. - Launch Life Groups
Phase 2: With Each Other. - Create a launch team and launch public worship.
Phase 3: With Our Neighbor - Intentionally work in our community through everyday mission and service.
Phase 4: Life Together - Establish all three habits and charter as an independent congregation.

“Building a Church Through Open-Handed Generosity and Partnership.”
Oikos Church is part of The Harvest Partnership, a church planting network committed to planting more churches. We believe that God’s mission is accomplished through the generous gifts, prayers, relationships, and resources of His people.
To help Oikos Church begin, The Harvest Partnership provided seed funding that allowed us to call a church planter and cover his salary and benefits during our first four years. This support gives us the opportunity to focus our early resources on establishing a church focused on building relationships, making disciples, and bringing Jesus to people.
Because of this partnership, every donation, gift, and grant received by Oikos Church goes directly toward ministry, outreach, discipleship, and preparing us to become a healthy, self-sustaining church.
If God is leading you to be part of what He is doing through Oikos, we would be honored to have you join us through prayer, partnership, and generosity.
